The Libby’s have been lobstering for over 30 years. They operate their own boats and they have now branched out into the overnight retail market.  That’s real good news for all of us.  Beals Island is a long way “downeast” located just off Jonesport in the clean, cold Atlantic waters of northern Maine. They have a very small holding facility but with lobsters this quality they don’t need much because nothing stays around long enough. Jeff and Pam Libby’s lobsters are magnificent – fresh, tasty and very reasonably priced. Jeff called to tell us he had just pulled his traps and our order was being shipped immediately. The lobster s arrived the next day, alive and kicking- probably fresher than most of the places you find them in Maine. The pleasant surprise was they were packed in seaweed (rock weed) which we used to decorate the serving plates. This is a family operation with their two sons running their own boats and their daughter working as sternman on Jeff’s boat, “Dad’s Crew”. This is like having a lobsterman friend in the business – 24 hours from his boat to your plate. The Libby's are new to the retail business and are very eager to please. With lobsters like theirs, that will be simple.
