Located on Union Wharf
in Portland, this company was one
of the first in the overnight lobster
business.
It’s been a while since we visited but on last inspection the facility was
clean and organized, although the
gunnite tanks were less than attractive.
Being in Portland, we assume that
they are buying from lobstermen
fishing the local waters of
a fairly active commercial port.
They offer a number of different
lobster dinner combinations including
their signature “Can-bake” which
resembles a large tin of popcorn.
We find the can to be a questionable
cooking utensil and we’d prefer
a good enamel pot for cooking.
The company offers a wide
selection of foods, maybe too big
to do them all well. They have various
“sides” including their own chowder.
Some of their complete dinner offerings
come with potatoes and corn. We
always think fresh is best and you’re
probably better off buying fresh,
local produce to include in your
dinner. To their credit the company
offers a number of different size
lobsters and they are a reliable
source for steamers. Gift certificates
are available. Overall, a solid
provider especially if you’re looking
for a clambake in a can kind of
gift.
