Claw Island started on the island of Vinalhaven and is now based in Portland. The company is the premiere frozen lobster shipped in the state. Claw Island has developed their own proprietary freezing process which gives the lobsters a 1 year frozen shelf life. The company buys local live lobsters, cooks and freezes them for shipping. In speaking with several folks in the lobster business, the quality of these lobsters is very good compared to traditional frozen lobster. Because they are not live and perishable, these lobsters don’t need to be shipped overnight, saving a lot of the shipping fees making them available at a very reasonable price.
